Ans: Rs2,500

Explanations:

1) The result he got after multiplying by 3 is 3. So the number has to be 1 (3/3). It has to be divided by 3 for getting the correct result. So the result is 1/3.
2) Present mixture contains 2 parts of R and 1 part of S, which totals to 3 parts of the mixture. Let X parts of R be added to the mixture to make S as 25 % of the mixture. This implies that R is now 75% of the mixture.
Total content is 3 + X
S is 1
25 % of (3 + X) = 1
(25/100) * (3 + X) = 1
75 + 25X = 100
25X = 25
X = 1 parts
3) Let original length and breadth be L and B respectively. Length is increased by 30 % and breadth is decreased by 20 %.
The new length and breadth are 1.3L and 0.8B
Old area = L * B
New area = 1.3L * 0.8B
= 1.04 L * B
Percentage change in area = ((1.04 L * B - L * B)/(L * B)) * 100
= 4 %
4) Let X packets be of 1kg and Y packets be of 2kg.
Total number of packets is 150.
X + Y = 150
Total weight is 264.
X + 2*Y = 264 (2*Y because weight of one Y packet is 2kg)
Y = 114
5) No. of students = 40
No .of students reading Hindi = 30
No .of students reading Hindi = 30
Minimum No. of students reading both = (30+ 20) - 40
= 10

6) Let the age of Jamila and Qurban be X and Y respectively Age of Jamila is twice that of Qurban
X = 2Y --------------------1
Difference of the ages of Jamila before 4yrs and Qurban after 3yrs is 12
(X - 4) - (y + 3) = 12
X - 4 - Y - 3 = 12
X - Y = 19 ---------2

Substituting 1 in 2
2Y - Y = 19
Y = 19
X = 38
Sum of their ages = 19 + 38
= 57

7) Time taken = 330 min = (330/60) hrs
Distance traveled = 110 miles
Speed = Distance/time
= (110/(330/60))
= (110/330) * 60
= 20
8) First man was over speeding by 10mph.
Hen the net man oever speed by twice that of the previous man. So the second man should have over ridden by 20mph. Also he was travelling at speed of 35mph.
So the speed limit = 35-20
= 15mph

9) Work done by R S and Q together in a day is 1/8
Work done by R and S together in a day is 1/12
Work done by Q alone = 1/8 - 1/12
= 1/24
Time taken for Q alone to finish the job is 24 days.

10) Weekly salary of Ismail is Rs.240
His expected weekly salary with commission is Rs.540
Commission of the week = 540 - 240
= 300
His commission is 12% of his sales.
Let his sales be Rs.X
(12/100) * X = 300
X = 2,500
