As far as the written test is concerned you have 2 tests...

TCS Talent Test

1) Aptitude test
-- consists of the following 3 subsections -- time 2 hours
(i) Section 1 of this aptitude test is of verbal type - 10 synonyms, 10 antonyms, some reading comprehension questions, and organizing jumbled sentences to make a meaningful paragraph, you can use GRE barrons book or any book of TOEFL -- total 32 marks
(ii) Section 2 is of simple mathematics...you don't need any preparation for that, using R.S. Agarwal - quantitative aptitude may help -- total 34 marks
(iii) Section 3 is of critical reasoning...this is similar to the analytical section of GRE..now this section is no more in GRE -- total 12 marks

2) Psychometric test -- time 30 minutes
Psychometric test consists of a test of 150 questions...for every questions you have to choose either yes,no or can't say....but you should not go for the can't say option as far as possible. Important thing in this section is that you should give similar answers to similar questions.

Technical interview -- technical interview of TCS is very simple...they make you feel very comfortable..he offered me a glass of water and also a biscuit as he realized that i was a bit nervous...he started with some HR type of questions -- like tell something about yourself, your academic background..

Then he asked me which in programming languages i was most confident..i said C,C++ and Java...then he asked me to rate myself in those languages from 1 to 10.

i said 7 out of 10 for all of them...then he asked me which topic in C i found the most difficult..i said file management...then he asked me how can i copy 1 file into another using C...and u know that is very simple ...i even didn't need to write the code...i named some of the functions that were required and he was convinced...then he asked me if i had worked at hardware level in C...i said i have worked with TSRs in C...he asked few basic questions of TSRs...then what are the essential features of an object oriented programming language..? He also asked my strong and weak points..so think of your strong and weak points before going for the interview..

surprisingly i was not asked any question about my final year project..but be prepared for that..

Management Interview

In management interview they ask questions like describe yourself...strong points and weak points...why you are going for TCS...so go through the TCS website and see the mission, vision, values...the number of clients and the number of countries in which TCS has its offices...and all important figures...mentioning those things will be a plus..

Then he asked me who is my role model...and if you name somebody then they will ask why...what innovations did he make...so think of some role model and be prepared for some questions on him...if you don't know some answer then frankly say.." sir i don't have much idea about that thing."

As far as the written test is concerned you have 2 tests...

TCS Talent Test

1) Aptitude test -- consists of the following 3 subsections -- time 2 hours
(i) Section 1 of this aptitude test is of verbal type - 10 synonyms, 10 antonyms, some reading comprehension questions, and organizing jumbled sentences to make a meaningful paragraph, you can use GRE barrons book or any book of TOEFL -- total 32 marks
(ii) Section 2 is of simple mathematics...you don't need any preparation for that, using R.S. Agarwal - quantitative aptitude may help -- total 34 marks
(iii) Section 3 is of critical reasoning...this is similar to the analytical section of GRE..now this section is no more in GRE -- total 12 marks

2) Psychometric test -- time 30 minutes
Psychometric test consists of a test of 150 questions...for every questions you have to choose either yes,no or can't say....but you should not go for the can't say option as far as possible. Important thing in this section is that you should give similar answers to similar questions.

Technical interview -- technical interview of TCS is very simple...they make you feel very comfortable..he offered me a glass of water and also a biscuit as he realized that i was a bit nervous...he started with some HR type of questions -- like tell something about yourself, your academic background..

Then he asked me which in programming languages i was most confident..i said C,C++ and Java...then he asked me to rate myself in those languages from 1 to 10.

i said 7 out of 10 for all of them...then he asked me which topic in C i found the most difficult..i said file management...then he asked me how can i copy 1 file into another using C...and u know that is very simple ...i even didn't need to write the code...i named some of the functions that were required and he was convinced...then he asked me if i had worked at hardware level in C...i said i have worked with TSRs in C...he asked few basic questions of TSRs...then what are the essential features of an object oriented programming language..? He also asked my strong and weak points..so think of your strong and weak points before going for the interview..

surprisingly i was not asked any question about my final year project..but be prepared for that..

Management Interview

In management interview they ask questions like describe yourself...strong points and weak points...why you are going for TCS...so go through the TCS website and see the mission, vision, values...the number of clients and the number of countries in which TCS has its offices...and all important figures...mentioning those things will be a plus..

Then he asked me who is my role model...and if you name somebody then they will ask why...what innovations did he make...so think of some role model and be prepared for some questions on him...if you don't know some answer then frankly say.." sir i don't have much idea about that thing."

I have taken up the online test on June 23. the test contains three sections.

The first section is the Verbal part. This section has 30 questions. The time limit is 20 minutes. There are 10 synonyms, 10 antonyms, a passage is given and we have to fill up the blanks. Then a comprehension. Some students got all the words form high frequency word list in gre.barrons book.

The second section is the quantitative Aptitude .there was 38 questions and time limit is 40 mins. all the questions were repeated form previous paper. it is enough if we look at the old papers.

On the next day we had the Technical interview and HR interview.

The people who came for recruitment from TCS were friendly. There were around 4 panels each for technical and HR interview. In my technical interview panel there was a lady and a man. The questions which were asked to me during technical interview were.

I went inside the room. The HR Person said sorry for the delay. He asked me whether I was waiting for a long time told him no problem its ok with a smile.

I am vinod...i got through TCS...we have TCS on our campus in july-2006 at hyd... First of all, i thank chetana madam for organizing such wonderful group.. and I am also thankful to group members who r sharing their experiences... plz.. accept this mail madam.. his will be so much helpful to TCS aspirants....

I am giving u tips for TCS preparation :

TCS process consists of three rounds:

1) Written
2) Technical Intv
3) HR Intv

1) WRITTEN :

First i will give u introduction about online test....It is conducted through QUBEX software which is very user friendly...first we will have sample test for 3 minutes which is not count into our real test. After that our real test follows...

We have three colors of buttons on right hand side labeled with question nos... when we click on the button, question will be displayed in the text area...and we have to select the correct option and click on SUBMIT button...note that we have to click on SUBMIT for each question answered.. other wise it will not count into our result.. it is very important...some students click submit at the end of all questions answered and not selected due to their mistake. Initially the buttons will have in some color( i don't remember the exact color)...but after clicking we have these colors changed into...

Green :- visited but not answered. i.e. clicked on the question button, not answered and not clicked on SUBMIT.C he t a n a S
Orange :- visited and answered. i.e. clicked on the question button, selected the answer and clicked on SUBMIT.

Check that finally the all buttons will have to be in orange color...meaning that u have answered all questions...

We can change the answer...by clicking that question button, select different option and click on SUBMIT again...

Time will be displayed on right hand upper side...after time has run out, next section continues...

it consists of three sections

a) Verbal : (32 Questions, Time:20min)

Sentence completion : 7
Reading comprehension : 5

Synonyms and antonyms :

for this just go through following in 12th or 13 th GRE Barons:
1. Antonyms in five model papers at the end of book and also diagnotic test at the beginning of book.http://www.ChetanaS.com
2. Antonym exercises labeled a, b, c, d, e.
3. we have TEST at the end of each word list...just buttify them...no need of knowing the meaning. u have to prepare like...if u saw question.. u have to just identify the answer among the options. The options also repeated which are in the book.

If u have less time, then only prepare TESTS that r labeled as only "synonyms"
or "antonyms". i.e

synonyms (word list Tests) : 1, 5, 7, 9, 11, 13, 16, 20, 21, 25, 26, 30, 31, 36, 40, 46, 50.

antonyms(word listTests) : 2, 3, 6, 8, 12, 14, 17, 18, 22, 23, 27, 28, 32, 33, 35, 37, 38, 41, 42, 47, 48.

Out of 20 synonyms and antonyms, I have 17 from the above three.

Sentence completion :

It is the toughest. we have to be so much proficient in english to answer this.

Reading comprehension :

For this.. go through the five model papers in at the end of GRE barons 12 th or 13th book.. and also diagonitic test at the beginning of book and also RC exercises labeled A, B, C, D, E. Just remember the answers.

I got: Paralleling the growth of interest among professional historians....(Model paper 5 , P.No:641)
Some of my friends got: The atmosphere is a mixture of...(RC exercise E, P.No:119)
some got different ones which r not in book ..so its ur luck if u got from above.

b) Quantitative : (38 questions, 40 mins)

All r from previous papers...model is the same but careful that numbers r changed...don't buttify the answers.. know the procedure to solve.

c) Critical Reasoning : (12 Questions, 30 mins)

3 passages, each consists of 4 questions.

For this go through the five model papers in at the end of GRE barons 12 th or 13th book.. all three passages r from those only. Just buttify the answers.

I got these passages:

1. In country X, the conservative, democratic and justice parties(model paper-1, sec-6, ques (1-4))C h e t a na S
2. Byram and Adoniram are code clerks...(Model paper-2, sec-6, Ques(1-4))
3. Seven verity basket ball players are to be honored (model paper-5, sec-7, ques(6-9))

Remember there is upper cut off...dont be put on every thing, be sure that ur range does not exceed 60-65 out of 80Qs

2)Technical Interview:

Go throgh the following to clear any interview :

Be perfect in ur favourate subjects. and also basics from other subjects. (for CSE students)

All topics from C, C++.

C programs :

factorial using recursion, fibnocci, prime no, pallindrome for strings and nos,swap with out using temporary var, string copy, conacatnate, matrix mulipication.

Operating systems :

processor sheduling, paging, Memory management, deadlock, Process management, virtual memory concept.

DBMS :

Normalization, SQL, Indexing, Hashing, Cursors, Triggers, Different types of joins.

Networks :

OSI, TCP/IP reference models, toplogies, ehernet, FDDI, Token ring, Routing, ATM, IP addressing.

Data structures :

Sorting, searching, stack, que, Linked lists, tree, BFS, DFS.

Software Engg :

sofwre development models, different strategies of testing (unit testing, integration testing...), Types of testing ( white or black box).

I have these questions : I said favourate subjects as c, c++, OS. So i have.. merge sort, prime no programs, virtual funtions, demand paging, What r oop concepts.

Be prepared for following questions:

Tell about ur self, strengths & weaknesses(very imp), why TCS, What do know about TCS, Why should we hire u(indirectly mention ur strengths), where do u see ur self after 3 years.http://www.ChetanaSinterview.com

Strengths & weaknesses r very important...be preapred to give exlanation in support of ur strenghts, like if u said Responsible Person...then be prepared for question why do u think so? then explain with an example...Strengths r the which will differentiate u from others& it may be alone reason to hire u.... understand, why iam sterssing this much on strengths...so prepare answer for above and frame a neat example(think of ur real strengths)...while saying ur example..not to be too explanative...be in short.

After that they told about the bond i.e. for two years.

that is all i have my experience with TCS process.

Verbal Ability: 10 syns, 10 Antys... (Go thru 12 or 13th GRE Barrons..)
Sentences completion - I got this - Reading comp i'e fungus paragraph, quite easy
Note: So friends if possible try to do everything from Barrons C he tanaS
Reading Comprehension: Cardinal and some other person.... etc which is there in GRE book and 6q's on it

Aptitude: All are repeated (chk out the 3rd Sep paper same questions) but values changed!
.....probs on Pie, bar charts and Venn diagrams etc

Critical reasoning- Here Barrons is really helped me alot. I solved all the questions
1. Red and Brown probs
2. A,B,C,D,E some knows some langauges like French, English etc

TCS PAPER - 10 OCT 2006 - CHENNAI

I was asked to appear for the TCS Recruitment process for the first round a few days back. I was sent a username and password and asked to log on to the a website and fill in a few more details and then generate a Hall Ticket ( PDF ) format. I took 2 prints of the hall ticket and 2 copies of my resume along with me. A photo identification proof is also required ( Driver's License / Voters ID / College ID card / Passport etc)

The test was an Online Test consisting of 3 phases as usual. The first round was a General English round with Antonyms and Synonyms. The second round was General Aptitude and qualitative analysis and finally the 3rd round was Critical Reasoning.

Since the test was an online test I might not be able to remember some of the questions.. but heres what I can recall

There are more but I cant seem to remember. I would suggest that you download the file Synonyms_Antonyms.doc available under the misc download category in the TCS 2006 section and go through it. If you are familiar with everything on this well you should score more than 90% in this section.

For the Quants Please refer older papers and you should do fairly well.

* One popular question is if GFGFD is coded as SHOVEL what is BVCJT coded as? I suggest that you try to find out the displacement of the charcters. I personally drew up an alphabet table. It was much easier. http://www.ChetanaS.com

* One other question that seems to reoccur is the biggest prime number that can fit inside a 9 bit number. Some of my friends had trouble with this one even though its quite simple. Take the number of bit ( 9 here ) and calculate 2^bit number ( 2 power 9) which is 512. Now look at the closest option from the list. Make sure its prime.

* What is 576 to the base 5 or something similar

* One question on physics - (Momentum X Veloctiy) / Accelration X Distance is measured in what units

* if M represent Modulo Arithematic, R represent Round off, T represents Truncation calculate the following M(737,5) - R(6.6) + T(7.1) etc

* if @ - represent square and * represents Square root then calculate the following @@-*16+@*8

* A can do a work in X days less than B. B does the same work in Y days. Both of them can do the work in Z days. Calculate X ( or Y)

* Given a Venn diagram they ask a few questions based on that

* A passage is given with blanks in the middle. You are given many options. You need to choose the right ones. Make sure that the choices you make fit the context of the passage.

There were more questions .. I just cant remember them at the moment

There was no sectional cut off and no negative marking. Each section had fixed time. 20 minutes, 40 minutes, 30 minutes If i remember. Results are instantaneous. You are either shown a Congratulations message or a best of luck next time message.

Feel confident and be cool about the test. Its not hard at all... infact its probably the easiest among all the other aptitude tests. Lot of people suggested that we go thru Baron's GRE book ... I dont have a copy of the book. So I couldnt refer it. The material from this site is more than sufficient. Most people could have made it in .. but it was only because of their tension and mental strain that they missed out on a lot of answers. That reminds me... the time limits are for sections and once the time runs out you are automatically forwarded to the next section. ONCE YOU ARE ON TO THE NEXT SECTION YOU CANNOT CHANGE OR ATTEMPT THE PREVIOUS SECTION ANSWERS. If you have extra time left you can re-check and change your answers. You can answer any question you have attempted or left behind before easily by simply clicking on the question number in the right side pane. Green coloured ones are the ones you have answered. Yellow coloured ones are the questions you have looked at but not answered and Red ones are the ones you have not looked at. TIME MANAGEMENT is very important. I couldnt attempt 4 questions over all in the end.

I however managed to clear the test. I was told I would be intimated about the details for the next round via e-mail.

So When I get thru my next round I will post more about this. Meanwhile I understand that there are more recruitment drives underway ( one even tomorrow in the same venue ). So I hope this helps those people, For now.

I am Vinay S, I appeared a offcampus exam conducted by TCS in Hyderabad on 7th oct.. I wrote the exam well, the questions were mostly from previous papers. But dont try to remember the answers from previous papers.They are changing the values in the questions. The paper was very easy, all the Synonyms Antynoms, passages all were from GRE Barrons 12th Edition.

Totally there were 3 sets X, Y, Z. and i got the set number Y. I will give u all the questions that I remember so that you can prepare for the comming exams. I am doing this because all the previous papers helped me a lot for the exam.
